A threatening note was left at the scene of an Oct. 22 arson that destroyed three Seattle vehicles -- nine days before an officer was shot to death and another was wounded -- but specific officers were not directly targeted, police said Wednesday.
Speaking at a news briefing Wednesday, Assistant Chief Jim Pugel did not link that crime to the Saturday shooting death of field training officer Tim Brenton and the wounding of his partner, Britt Sweeney.
About 5 a.m. Oct. 22, someone sneaked into the city's Charles Street maintenance yard and torched three police cruisers and one mobile command vehicle.
Left behind were fliers referencing "police brutality" that specifically mentioned a recent King County case involving a sheriff's deputy who beat a teenage girl in a SeaTac holding cell after she kicked a shoe at him, according to a law enforcement bulletin.
Police also found evidence of possible pipe bombs, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation.
