Los Angeles Airport Police Assistant Chief Ethel L. McGuire was honored recently at the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) 10^th Annual Achiever's Award for "Women in Leadership, Shattering the Glass Ceiling." 

McGuire was recognized for her 23-year career achievements at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in progressively important positions, and current accomplishments as Assistant Chief of Homeland Security and Intelligence at Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the Los Angeles City department that owns and operates three Southern California airports.  She served as assistant special-agent-in-charge and executive manager of the Counterterrorism Branch of the FBI Field Office in Los Angeles. McGuire was section chief of the Strategic Information and Operations Center at FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., managed crisis response, preparedness and staffing for all major events for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China; the Republican and Democratic conventions and events of the 2009 Presidential Inauguration.

Los Angeles Airport Police Chief George R. Centeno said, "We congratulate Chief McGuire on this exceptional, well-deserved recognition from NOBLE.  I feel privileged to have her on my team of chiefs protecting the hundreds of thousands of passengers, visitors and employees who come daily to our three airports." 

Also honored were Supervisory Special Agent Voviette D. Morgan of the FBI in Los Angeles; Regina A. Scott and Ann Young for becoming the first Black females promoted to commander and captain, respectively, in the Los Angeles Police Department.

The awards ceremony was conducted March 12 at the University of Southern California Town and Gown Banquet Hall. Also in attendance at the event were Los Angeles Airport Police Assistant Chiefs Brian A. Walker and Michael Hyams, LAWA Deputy Executive Director for Airport Operations and Emergency Management Jacqueline Yaft, and Los Angeles Deputy Mayor for Homeland Security Eileen Decker.
