The man who was given $795,000 by the city of Denver to settle a lawsuit alleging three city officers used excessive force and violated his civil rights has said the incident won't erode his trust in law enforcement.

The man who was given $795,000 by the city of Denver to settle a lawsuit alleging three city officers used excessive force and violated his civil rights has said the incident won't erode his trust in law enforcement.

Alexander Landau, the 22-year-old grandson of a Denver Police officer, told the Denver Post he still trusts other officers in the department. He sued the city and filed a federal civil rights lawsuit claiming the officers tried to cover up a Jan. 19, 2009, beating that left him with 45 stitches in his face and gave him a concussion, broken nose, and fractured hand.

Two of the three officers named in the suit — Officer Ricky Nixon and Cpl. Randy Murr — were fired recently for lying on reports about other excessive-force incidents.
