A man who killed a Coral Gables (Fla.) Police officer at a traffic stop is set to serve his sentence on Wednesday, eight weeks after his initial execution date.
Manuel Valle is set to receive an injection of a new mixture of lethal drugs.
Valle shot Officer Louis Pena at a traffic stop on April 2, 1978. Valle was sitting in the patrol car, after the officer pulled him over for a traffic violation. While the officer was running a registration check on Valle's stolen car, Valle walked back to his vehicle, retrieved a weapon, and returned to fatally shoot the officer.
Florida's Supreme Court rejected Valle's latest appeal on Tuesday. His attorneys have appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
