Private Investigator Used Cops for 'Dirty DUI' Arrests
Two police departments and a narcotics task force in Contra Costa County, Calif., have been implicated in a "dirty DUI" scandal involving a private investigator accused of arranging for the arrests of ex-husbands at the behest of their ex-wives.
Two police departments and a narcotics task force in Contra Costa County, Calif., have been implicated in a "dirty DUI" scandal involving a private investigator accused of arranging for the arrests of ex-husbands at the behest of their ex-wives.
Christopher Butler, 49, is the a private detective, former officer, and the subject of a state and federal criminal investigation. Butler, who was arrested in February, allegedly set up at least five DUIs. Investigators also say Butler sold drugs for law enforcement officers and helped them open and operate a brothel, collecting and delivering the profits.

In early March, Contra Costa County (Calif.) Sheriff's Deputy Stephen Tanabe, who allegedly made three of the pre-arranged arrests, resigned.
