First responders who attend the classes usually bring back the institute's fitness training to their agencies to help officers stay in peak physical condition.

The course offers education on anatomy; resistance and cardiovascular training; nutrition; and specific lectures on fitness testing and standards in law enforcement. The attendees also undergo their own fitness assessments and some medical screenings.

The 4 1/2 day Law Enforcement Fitness Specialist (LEFS) course will be offered in Dallas from April 23-27, July 23-27, Sept. 17-21, and Dec. 3-7. It will be offered from June 25-29 in Manchester, N.J.

The institute's more than 20 classes are offered to the military, government and agencies that include the Navy, Internal Revenue Service, and regional law and fire departments across the U.S.

The cost to attend a LEFS course in Dallas is $695.
