VIDEO: Indy Cop's Family Spares Life of Son's Killer
The family of slain Indianapolis Metro Police Officer David Moore agreed to spare the life of their son's killer in a plea agreement announced today.
Thomas Hardy, 61, pleaded guilty to murder to avoid the death penalty, reports the Indianapolis Star. At a press conference, Spencer Moore, a retired IMPD lieutenant, explained why the family agreed to accept a life sentence for the killer of his son.
"What we felt was that once Mr. Hardy had asked for compassion from us, it was our duty to provide it," said Moore. "By showing compassion, we actually honored (David) and honored the fellow officers."
