VIDEO: Shooting In Ill. Agency's Station

A Vernon Hills (Ill.) Police officer who shot a suicidal man in the station lobby has been cleared of any wrongdoing, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

The agency released video surveillance footage of the incident, following the exoneration of the officer on Tuesday.

On April 3, 53-year-old Howard Lazarus entered the Vernon Hills PD's station and said he wanted to file an accident report. The surveillance footage shows an officer approaching Lazarus. The officer offered to drive Lazarus to the Mundelein Police Department to file the report.

Lazarus then pointed a replica Airsoft pistol at the officer, who took cover. Lazarus apparently asked to be shot and took two steps toward the officer, who fired twice, striking Lazarus.

Lazarus has been charged with aggravated assault of a police officer.
