Two West Haven (Conn.) Police officers are being honored as heroes for rescuing a man who was trapped inside a burning vehicle on Saturday morning.
Officers Scott Bloom and Seth Twohill were dispatched to Derby Avenue at 2 a.m. after a Chevy Impala crashed into a utility pole. It's hood and engine compartment were split into a "V" shape and on fire, reports the New Haven Register.
The officers located the driver near the vehicle and saw the passenger still in his seat. As the car filled with smoke, the officers reached inside the driver's side and pulled the man to safety. Shortly after extricating the man from the car, the passenger-side seat caught fire.
