Eight people were killed last week when a gas explosion leveled an apartment building in the New York City neighborhood of East Harlem. One of them was an off-duty law enforcement officer who lived in the building.
Sgt. Griselde Camacho, 44, was an officer who served with the City University of New York’s Public Safety Department. She worked at Hunter College.
“Griselde was a well-liked member of our community, a respected officer and a welcoming presence at our Silberman building,” Hunter College President Jennifer Raab said in a statement. “We also know this is a difficult time for all those who knew and worked with Sgt. Camacho.”
Friends and colleagues have set up a memorial page for Camacho on Facebook.
