Nebraska Sheriff Dies After Heart Attack

Butler County Sheriff Mark Hecker died Tuesday at age 53 at an Omaha hospital. He had suffered a heart attack on Friday.

An eastern Nebraska sheriff has died several days after having a heart attack.

Butler County Attorney Julie Reiter said Wednesday that Sheriff Mark Hecker died Tuesday at age 53 at an Omaha hospital. He had suffered a heart attack on Friday, the Associated Press reports.

Hecker had served as Butler County Sheriff since first winning election to the job in 1998.
