A suspect is in custody after two Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) police officers were shot and injured on Sunday, according to officials. The officers' injuries are not life-threatening.

The officers responded to a domestic violence call when the shooting took place. Officials told WSOC-TV  the when the officers arrived, they were confronted by the suspect wielding a shotgun.

They were unable to find the woman who placed the call, and saw a black man leaving a house. The man fired a shotgun at the officers. The first officer was hit in the leg and arm by what investigators think were shotgun pellets.

Police Chief Rodney Monroe said, "It's a very lucky day that nobody is dead and nobody seriously injured."
