VIDEO: Maryland Officer Crashes and Dies Attempting to Make Traffic Stop
A Prince George’s County, Md., police officer was killed in a crash early Saturday morning.
Chief Mark Magaw told NBC Washington that Officer Brennan Rabain, 26, was killed in the line of duty during an accident occurred at 3:20 a.m. in the 9400 block of Copernicus Drive in Lanham, Maryland.
Magaw said a preliminary investigation showed Rabain was technically off duty and driving with a female passenger when he saw a traffic infraction and attempted to make a traffic stop in the area when he crashed into a fence. The chief said that by activating lights and siren during the stop, Rabain went back on duty and his death will be classified as a line of duty death.
The passenger was not seriously injured, but she was admitted to a hospital with minor injuries and treated for shock.
