The officers, who came from various work assignments in the department, will be interviewed after their leave is over. They will be monitored and counseling will be available, police said.
Administrative leave is department policy in shootings involving police, the Dallas Morning News reports.
The 12-hour standoff began about 12:30 a.m. after witnesses reported someone firing at Dallas police headquarters in the 1400 block of South Lamar. Boulware fled to Hutchins after police returned fire. Police believe he acted alone in the planning, preparation and execution.
SWAT snipers disabled Boulware’s armored van after it had stopped on its own by shooting out the engine block with a .50-caliber rifle. Another shot hit 35-year-old Boulware.
