Man Arrested After Gun Jams When He Tries to Shoot Pennsylvania Officer

An Allentown, PA, man is in custody after he tried to fire a gun at a policeman Sunday morning while fleeing arrest at a convenience store, police said.

Hakeem R. Chappelle, 26, was carrying a .32-caliber pistol when he turned toward the officer and pulled the trigger. The gun jammed without firing, police Capt. Bill Reinik told the Morning Call .

"By the grace of God or whatever, the gun didn't go off," said Reinik, who said officer Stephen James showed a lot of restraint during the encounter.
