An off-duty Sayreville, NJ police officer was found dead from gunshot wounds Monday morning in a vehicle next to a former movie theater just off the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville, according to police reports.
During a morning news conference at the site, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said that authorities received reports of a body found in a car on the site. He said that the victim was identified as a Sayreville police officer who died from gunshot wounds. He added that the officer was off-duty, reports mycentraljersey.com.
The prosecutor's office has taken over the investigation of the incident.
Two officers were shot in Gainesville, Florida, by a man who police say was leaving an area where he had killed a man inside a business. The suspect exited his vehicle in what the chief termed an “ambush-style” attack.
