A manhunt continues Monday for a man sought in the deaths of his aunt and uncle and the wounding of two Wellston, OK, police officers, reports The Oklahoman.
About 6:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said, Michael Dale Vance Jr., 38, armed with an AK-47 styled rifle, shot two officers responding to a shots-fired call in Wellston, OK. Officers Shawn Stewart and Jim Hampton were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries and are said to be “doing well and will be recovering at home soon,” according to Lincoln County Emergency Management.
Authorities also identified Tony Heavner as another man involved in the shooting, an investigator with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office reported in a court affidavit.
Heavner was apprehended after the shooting, but Vance fled the scene in one of the police vehicles and carjacked and shot a woman at a nearby trailer park, according to authorities. The woman refused medical treatment at the scene.
The woman's car was later spotted at a residence where the suspect's aunt and uncle were found dead of gunshot and stab wounds.
A number of law enforcement agencies from across the state are searching for Vance, including the OHP and the OSBI.
