A woman will lead the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center for the first time in the academy’s 46-year history.
The Nebraska Crime Commission announced Friday that Brenda Urbanek, a 28-year employee of the Grand Island training center, will take over as director next week. Urbanek replaces Bill Muldoon, who led the center for 12 years before being named emergency communications director in Sarpy County earlier this year, Omaha.com reports.
Urbanek had been the interim director of the training center in recent months and served as deputy director since 1995. She previously has worked as an officer and investigator with the Kearney Police Department.
“It’s an honor to have the confidence of the Police Standards Advisory Council,” she said Friday, referring to the group of law enforcement professionals who interviewed candidates and recommended her promotion.
