Washington Department Set to Update its Use-of-Force Policy

Chief Craig Meidl said that most of the department is already using the proposed principles and tactics — including using time, distance, cover and de-escalation — but said that some officers who “could benefit from those being codified in an official policy.”

The Spokane (WA) Police Department is planning to roll out a new use-of-force policy this fall, according to the Inlander.

Chief Craig Meidl said that most of the department is already using the proposed principles and tactics — including using time, distance, cover and de-escalation — but said that some officers who “could benefit from those being codified in an official policy,” the report said.

The Spokane City Council also approved the purchase of an online use-of-force dashboard, “which will track officers' force and identify patterns and trends.”
