Officer Roscoe Friday of the Richmond (VA) Police Department is patrolling the city's Brookland Park community at 62. He joined the force four years ago.

You can usually find him in this area pounding the pavement, walking each block and into the businesses on it, WWBT reports.

“I was making pretty good money, making a pretty good living, doing the things you do in life. And here it is 58, and the opportunity to say, let’s do what you really want to do in life. This is your calling,” said Friday.

This is not his first time in law enforcement. He was a state trooper for about three years after graduating from Virginia State back in the 1990s. He also dabbled in real estate and car sales. But his passion for policing never left.

“I was working at Community Hospital as a lead security officer, and kind of got talked into it by other police officers that would come by in their official capacity, and they said, ‘You know, you need to get back into policing,’” said Friday.

In the police academy the then 58-year-old Friday received the best in physical fitness award. WWBT says he was running 10 miles a day before entering the academy.
