An officer with the Hartselle (AL) Police Department was given the medal of valor for her actions in July that resulted in a woman's life being saved from deadly floodwaters.
According to WAFF-TV, Lieutenant Linda Fox—a 22-year veteran of the department—smashed out the window of a vehicle that had been swept away by fast-moving floodwaters and extracted a woman from inside.
Fox was then also swept downstream in the current and barely escaped being washed into a storm drain.
During the city council meeting at which she was presented with her award she received a standing ovation.
