A number of officers with the Seattle (WA) Police Department are training to become EMTs so they're prepared to render aid in the event of a large-scale emergency.
According to the Seattle Times, the four-day training program was created by Seattle Police Officer Tyler Verhaar, Blair Dell, a retired Marine medic who served four combat tours, and Dr. Marc Reiswig, an emergency physician attached to the State Patrol's SWAT team.
The final day of the training includes high-stress inoculation training intended to simulate the physiological effects officers may experience in a high-stress, traumatic event.
Dell says that Seattle PD is among the first to conduct such intensive training.
