A Philadelphia woman has been charged by federal authorities with setting fire to two police cars during protests over the death of George Floyd after investigators examined an online "Etsy" review that she allegedly wrote about the shirt she was seen wearing in photos of the incident and images of her tattoo.
According to NBC News, the suspect—identified by authorities as 33-year-old—Lore-Elisabeth Blumenthal—now faces two counts of felony arson
Blumenthal is accused of setting the police cars alight on May 30 during the first day of protests in Philadelphia, which quickly devolved into mass looting and destruction.
U.S. Attorney William McSwain said in a statement, "We at the U.S. Attorney's Office fully support the First Amendment right of the people to assemble peaceably and to petition their government. But torching a police car has nothing to do with peaceful protest or any legitimate message. It is a violent and despicable act that will be prosecuted in this District to the fullest extent of the law."
