Body-Worn Video Shows CT Officers Save Woman from Ledge

“We want the best for you right now and we want to make sure that you are okay,” one of the officers is heard telling the woman on the video. “So, if you need somebody to talk to, you can talk to me. If you want to stay quiet and relax a little, that’s fine too.”

The New Haven Police Department, CT, released video of when three officers saved a distraught woman who was seated on the ledge of the third floor of a parking garage recently.

The body-worn camera footage from a bike patrol officer shows one female officer talking to the woman as he arrives. He approaches the crying woman, wraps his arms around her, and pulls her safely back to the parking area.

“You’re okay. You’re okay,” that officer tells the woman.

One of the female officers is then seen sitting on the ground as she tries to comfort the woman.

“We want the best for you right now and we want to make sure that you are okay,” one of the officers is heard telling the woman on the video. “So, if you need somebody to talk to, you can talk to me. If you want to stay quiet and relax a little, that’s fine too.”

The department credits Officers Aviles, Berrios, and M. Vega for saving the woman’s life in the Aug. 6 incident.
