Off-Duty CA Officer Killed in Accidental Shooting

An off-duty Colton, CA, police officer accidentally shot himself to death on Thursday, Oct. 27, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.

Lorenzo Morgan, 29, of Apple Valley, called 911 at about 2:46 p.m. from National Trails Highway in Oro Grande, a desert community north of Victorville. He told dispatchers that he was parked on the side of the road in his vehicle and had accidentally shot himself below the waist, a sheriff’s news release said.

Morgan was taken to a hospital, where he died, the Daily Bulletin reports.

“No foul play is suspected in the shooting and it is believed this was a tragic accident,” the sheriff’s release said.
