Two Nicholas County (W.Va.) Sheriff's deputies were shot and wounded Saturday when they responded to a dispute between neighbors, leading to a four-hour standoff that ended when the suspect was fatally shot by police.
John Evans, 84, shot Deputy Buddy Stapleton in the leg and Deputy Tommy Allison in the face and stomach at shortly after 9 a.m. in Craigsville. Evans then barricaded himself in his home for more than four hours, as the West Virginia State Police Special Response Team responded to the scene.
