A woman who had a feminine hygiene product removed from her genitals during a search by an officer with the San Antonio (TX) Police Department in 2016 has received a $205,000 payout from the city.

According to the New York Times , a female officer was searching 40-year-old Natalie Simms for illegal drugs and told her to spread her legs on the side of a San Antonio street. The officer then reportedly removed a tampon from her body.

Simms filed suit, saying that the city had violated her constitutional rights and that the officer had conducted a vaginal cavity examination in public with male officers nearby.

The proposed settlement does not acknowledge wrongdoing.
