Video: Citizen Aids Memphis Officer During Gun Grab Attack
A Memphis Officer was attacked on Saturday. The suspect was arrested after a citizen came to the aid of the officer.
A Memphis man is in jail accused of trying to kill a Memphis police officer by strangling her.
WMC-TV 5 is reporting that Alphonzo Johnson was arrested Saturday after he reportedly attacked the officer near Madison Avenue and Cleveland Street. Police say at one point during the struggle he was almost able to get the officer's gun.
According to a police affidavit, MPD officer Jennifer Robinson saw Johnson pound on someone's car. When Robinson approached Johnson, police say he began choking her, threatened to kill her, and reached for her gun. The owner of a cell phone store across the street saw the struggle and was able to pull Johnson away.
