The University of California, Davis police chief who was criticized in a report on the November pepper-spray incident has decided to retire.
Annette M. Spicuzza wrote in a statement sent out via e-mail that "As the university does not want this incident to be its defining moment, nor do I wish for it to be mine, I believe in order to start the healing process, this chapter of my life must be closed." Spicuzza and Lt. John Pike were both suspended shortly after protestors were sprayed with pepper spray by campus officers, reports the Sacramento Bee .
