Three Charged With Attempted Murder in Attack on Illinois Police Officer

Police investigating a series of shootings involving suspects in a vehicle firing upon other vehicles in North Chicago themselves came under fire early Sunday morning, police said on Wednesday.

According to the Daily Herald , police had visited several locations where shots had been reported, finding several vehicles struck by gunfire before an officer spotted a vehicle fitting the description of the suspect vehicle.

A traffic stop was initiated, but the suspects fled. A brief pursuit ensued during which at least two shots were fired, police say.

The suspects—identified as 26-year-old Raymond Steward, 27-year-old James Towns, and 28-year-old Willie Bell—were apprehended and taken into custody.

All three are charged with first-degree attempted murder of a peace officer, reckless discharge of a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a firearm
