The decision came after allegations of Balderrama being involved in an 'inappropriate relationship' came to light.
It's unclear when Balderrama applied for the job but the city started taking applications on May 15, three weeks before the allegations of his inappropriate relationship were made public,

Former Seattle Chief Diaz was removed from his post last month and reassigned over allegations of harassment, discrimination, and hostile work environment.
Diaz has denied the allegations.
He told Seattle radio host
Jason Rantz
that he had an initial interview with the Austin Police Department to become its chief.
Diaz’ name was also on a list of candidates published this week by Austin’s
KXAN
.
Former Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon retired last year. The department has since been led by Interim Chief Robin Henderson who has said she plans to retire and does not want the job.
