SC Deputies Get Substantial Pay Raise
“When you go from $32,000 to $48,000 starting for a class one certified. $48,388. That is outstanding. Money talks. You know, people need money to survive," the sheriff said.
Florence County, SC, deputies and corrections officers are getting a pretty substantial pay raise, according to Florence County Sheriff T.J. Joye.
Joye said the raises wouldn't be possible without the approval of Florence County Council members, WPDE reports.
"Where we were, we were in bad shape. As far, as being below in this Pee Dee. This is a large county, 804 square miles of county. But I am very very grateful to the County Council, the chairman. They always lend an ear, listen to our needs. They have been very very good to us," said Joye.
Joye said corrections officers will make more than $43,000 a year and certified deputies will bring home $48,388 a year.
“When you go from $32,000 to $48,000 starting for a class one certified. $48,388. That is outstanding. Money talks. You know, people need money to survive. Always been hard for law enforcement officers with the salary where it was. This puts us beyond competitive. This is a big step," he said.
