Police Resignations Increase 50% at Georgia Agency

The Savannah-Chatham (Ga.) Metro Police Department is reporting a 50% increase in resignations by its officers, including a spike in departures by the least experienced on its force, reports the Savannah Morning News.

The agency is also reporting a 10% drop-out rate from recruits following firearms training and another 10% loss following driver training.

Chief Willie Lovett attributes the departure of officers to the economy and talks of dwindling comforts and job security. The increase occurred over a three-year span, which included a 60% resignation rate among lower-level officers.
