Phoenix Officer Ambushed and Wounded, Suspect At Large

A Phoenix police officer was shot and wounded in what authorities are calling an “unprovoked attack” Friday. At presstime, police were searching for the armed suspect.

A statement released by the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association (PLEA) says the officer was shot after responding to reports that a vehicle had crashed into a home. When the officer arrived, PLEA says the suspect jumped out of a car with a rifle “cowardly ambushed the officer,” firing several shots at her. Read PLEA’s full statement at the end of this report.

The officer is expected to survive her injuries, and is currently being treated at a local hospital, Fox 10 reports.

Sources told ABC15 the officer was shot in the hip.

A second officer was bitten by a dog while at the scene and is being treated at a hospital, according to multiple sources.
