Parkland Students File Suit Against Broward Sheriff, Other Officials
Survivors of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, have filed a federal lawsuit against Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie, Broward Sheriff Scott Israel, and other law enforcement officials.

The lawsuit also names retired school resource officer Scot Peterson, who was on the scene but did not enter the building when the shooting began.
The attorney for the 15 students filing the suit — Solomon Radner — said, "Law enforcement choked and the goal of this lawsuit is to ensure that this never happens again. If they choke and they cause people to die, they will have to face the music."
The suit claims the students' civil rights were violated and the county's "policies and procedures, and training or lack thereof, demonstrated deliberate indifference" to the students' rights, and "that deliberate indifference caused the herein complained-of harm to take place," according to NBC News.
