Chief Paul Prine has been fired by the Mobile City Council. Prine claims the city government is trying to run the department.

Mobile, Alabama, Police Chief Paul Prine has been fired. Prine has been on paid administrative leave since April 9.
Tuesday the Mobile City Council voted unanimously to remove Prine. The vote came just after a 6-1 vote, with District 5 Councilman Joel Daves opposed, in favor of a compromise measure to launch an independent investigation into some of the allegations Prine has made against senior-level administration officials.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson has said Chief Prine has been insubordinate, not wanting to follow the chain of command. He also has cited foul language the chief reportedly used early in his tenure, Fox 10 reports.
For his part, now former Chief Prine said it was not a surprise because, he maintains, the council only had one part of the story.
Mayor Stimpson has ordered two separate investigations into a controversial contract related to an anti-violence program and has turned over all materials to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.
Former Chief Prine has raised concerns about the program.
