Memphis Chief Now “Interim Chief” After Council Tables Vote on Reconfirmation
Mayor Paul Young said there’s no national search for another chief happening, and he gave no answer as to how long the interim title could stay.
The word “interim” is now attached to Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis’ title after the vote to reconfirm her was tabled by City Council on Tuesday at the suggestion of Mayor Paul Young.
But what does the interim title mean for the chief’s role?
When it comes to the work status of now Interim Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis, Mayor Young is frank.
“She is our chief. It’s just an interim title on it,” he told WREG.
He said there’s no national search for another chief happening, and he gave no answer as to how long the interim title could stay. Looking ahead, Young said he’s not focused on getting votes from city council members to confirm Davis’ position but instead getting results in the community.
Memphis is plagued with crime, with 397 homicides last year smashing records of previous years.
