Kansas Man in Custody After Allegedly Shooting at Police

A man is in custody after he reportedly opened fire on officers with the Leawood (KS) Police Department immediately prior to a six-hour standoff on Saturday night.

According to KSHB-TV , the officers had been conducting a welfare check on a man who appeared intoxicated and possibly suicidal.  

"At some point during their conversation, the male resident fired shots at the officers. The officers backed away," said Captain Kirt Yoder of the Leadwood Police Department.

No officers were injured.
