Hi-Tech Solutions, an Israeli developer and provider of optical character recognition (OCR) computer vision systems, today announced a new mobile version of its vision-based License Plate Recognition (LPR) system, SeeCar. The new system identifies vehicles at temporary checkpoints and fixed and temporary parking lots at special events and urban situations requiring maximum security, such as large-scale events of national or international significance.
The new system, SeeCar Mobile, will serve law enforcement, homeland security, and intelligence agencies. The system is posted before the checkpoint or the parking lot entrance, and automatically captures the license plate number of any vehicle going into and out of the compound. The system checks the plate numbers against law enforcement, homeland security, and intelligence databases.
When the database identifies a car as being suspicious, or defines its owner as a potential threat, either for criminal or homeland security reasons, an immediate alert is transferred to the police and/or other forces at the checkpoint or parking lot gate.
In restricted areas, where only authorized cars are permitted entry, such as VIPs, invitees etc., the system can automatically open the barrier to the authorized cars, allowing a smooth flow of the traffic entering the area, while unauthorized cars cannot enter.
In addition, at public events or high-security situations where adjacent streets are blocked and traffic is channeled into one road, SeeCar Mobile can be installed on the side of the street and automatically check the license plate number of each car entering the street.
"Automatic license plate recognition has been proven to provide critical values in effective security, and our new mobile version further helps identify threats to public safety and alert security forces in real time," said Phil Elovic, HTS president and CEO.
SeeCar implements proprietary image processing software architecture and algorithms for recognition of characters and digits, and specially developed camera and illumination systems optimally designed for capturing the target images.
