Grand Jury Expected to Charge NYPD Ticket-Fixing Officers

More than a dozen NYPD officers are expected to face criminal charges stemming from a ticket-fixing investigation that was initially thought to involve several hundred officers .

A Bronx grand jury is expected to issue the charges in the inquiry that took an unsettling turn on Wednesday, when a 62-year-old NYPD officer touched the third rail of an elevated train track in an apparent suicide attempt. He had testified before the grand jury.

The grand jury investigation is now expected to result in charges against more than a dozen police officers, most of them for crimes related to fixing tickets. The others face more serious corruption charges, a person briefed on the matter said. About 25 to 40 officers are expected to face charges.

The investigation has resulted in lower patrol morale and officers who are less willing to write tickets, reports the New York Times.
