The Greene County (Ga.) Sheriff's second-in-command was fatally shot Sunday morning, after he answered the door at his Siloam home, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Chief Deputy Kevin Roberts, 48, was fatally shot by 37-year-old Sherman Ash Branch, the subject of a Greene County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) narcotics investigation. Branch then killed himself.
The chief deputy was not involved in the investigation, Sheriff Chris Houston has said.
On Monday, Sheriff Houston said Branch was "one of the biggest drug dealers" in the county and was potentially facing federal narcotics charges. Nine other suspects were arrested Sunday, reports WSB TV .
