FL Sheriff Equips School Deputies with Carbines, More Tactical Uniforms

Brevard County (FL) Sheriff Wayne Ivey announced in a Facebook video this week that his school resource deputies will be dressed in more tactical uniforms and carrying carbines when the school year starts.

Quoting ancient Chinese martial philosopher Sun Tzu, Ivey said, “Every battle is won or lost before it is fought.” He then explained the preparations his agency is taking to deter or counter active shooter attacks in the county’s schools, including making the deputies "better prepared, better armed, and better trained."

“Our schools are among the safest in the country. They are protected by who I believe are the most courageous deputies and officers in America,” he said.

The new tactical uniforms for the school resource deputies are green with external body armor carriers. In addition the deputies will be carrying SUB2000 pistol-caliber carbines with folding stocks made by Brevard County-based Kel-Tec.

Ivey said having the school resource deputies carry the carbines means they will not have to go to their vehicles to get their rifles if an attack should occur.
