The Arizona man serving 107 years in prison for being the getaway driver in the shooting death of a Gilbert police officer is suing four law enforcement agencies, claiming the officers who fired on him used excessive force, reports The Arizona Republic.
Daimen Irizarry peeled out in a supermarket parking lot and led law enforcement officers on a 50-mile chase, after Gilbert PD's Lt. Eric Shuhandler was shot in the face and left for dead on Jan 28, 2010.
Irizarry and Christopher Redondo, who faces trial in June as the triggerman, were seriously injured when police opened fire on them near Globe.
In the suit, Irizarry claims police from Gilbert, Mesa, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety as well as Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies used excessive force and were negligent when they shot the suspects multiple times in the legs and feet.
Irizarry was sentenced for his role in the murder in October.
