The City of Chicago is suing gun manufacturer Glock over claims that it is too easy to modify semi-auto Glock pistols into full auto machine pistols.
The 41-page lawsuit was filed Tuesday by the City of Chicago Department of Law in conjunction with Everytown Law and attorneys from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, WGN reports.
According to the filing, Glock is accused of endangering Chicagoans by manufacturing and selling semi-automatic pistols that can be easily converted to machine guns using devices commonly known as “auto sears” or “switches.”
These devices, only about the size of a quarter, are illegal and considered a machine gun in itself under federal law.
Although the switches are often referred to as “Glock Switches” and some even have the logo printed on them, they are not associated with the manufacturer in any way. As WGN News has reported previously, many times these devices are shipped in illegally from overseas or manufactured utilizing 3-D printing.
