Camden Police Director Resigns After Council Nixes Appointment

Camden's Mayor Dana Redd hired Lanuel J. Ferguson, a high-ranking member of the New Jersey State Police, in July and agreed to pay him a $100,000 salary. The City Council refused to confirm him as police director and members said the money could be better used to hire back patrol officers who were laid off earlier this year.

The man hired to help turn around the Camden (N.J.) Police Department has resigned, after the city's elected leaders refused to confirm his appointment.

Camden's Mayor Dana Redd hired Lanuel J. Ferguson, a high-ranking member of the New Jersey State Police, in July and agreed to pay him a $100,000 salary. The City Council refused to confirm him as police director and members said the money could be better used to hire back patrol officers who were laid off earlier this year.
