4 Killed, Officer Wounded in Colorado Shooting Spree

A gunman killed four people and injured three others, including a police officer, in a shooting spree that spanned across Denver and ended in Lakewood, CO, Monday night, police say. The suspect was killed by officers.

The spree started a little after 5 p.m. in Denver and ended in Lakewood, Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said in a joint press conference with the Lakewood Police Department.

Three people were shot at the first scene. Two women were killed and one man was injured, according to Chief Pazen.

A short time later, officers were dispatched to a second shooting also in Denver, where a man was killed, the Denver Channel reports.

Denver officers responded to another scene, identified the vehicle associated with the shootings and a pursuit ensued. Gunfire was exchanged between the officers and the suspect, Chief Pazen said.

The suspect disabled the police vehicle and fled into Lakewood, according to Chief Pazen.

Just before 6 p.m., Lakewood police received a call about a shooting at a business, according to John Romero, public information officer with the Lakewood Police Department. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lakewood officers were able to locate the suspect and shots were exchanged. The suspect then fled into a shopping area and then a hotel, where he reportedly shot a desk clerk.

After fleeing the hotel, the suspect was confronted by a Lakewood police officer. The suspect shot and wounded the officer, Romero said.

The condition of the officer was not released at press time.

Gun fire was exchanged between the suspect and other officers, Romero said, and the suspect was killed.

A witness described the shooting of the Lakewood officer to Fox31 . “We seen (sic) the lady officer just yelled: ‘put your gun down. Put your gun away!’ And we just seen the suspect pull his gun out and, literally, shoot her, in front of us and she was on the floor, she was on the ground.”
