The sheriff of Big Horn County, Montana, was killed Sunday in an apparent off-duty crash near Little Bighorn Battlefield.
Montana Highway Patrol says Sheriff Darrell King was killed just after 5 p.m. when a semi-truck hit the car King was driving head on, KULR reports.
The sheriff was not driving a Big Horn County vehicle. MHP says he was pronounced deceased at the scene, and that speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
King, 55, was sworn into the sheriff's position in January after being elected last year, KTVQ reports.
