FL Chief Dies in Truck Crash After Hitting Deer

After hitting the deer, the Jasper PD pickup struck a tree on the side of the road and caught fire.

The police chief of Jasper, FL, died Sunday night when he crashed into a tree after hitting a deer.

Chief Tony Rickerson, 43, was driving a Jasper PD pickup truck at the time of the accident.

After hitting the deer, the Jasper PD pickup struck a tree on the side of the road and caught fire, according to the Lake City Reporter. The chief was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rickerson was named the city’s permanent chief last September after previously serving as interim chief.
