Earlier this week, General Motors announced the availability of the two models of its 2011 Chevrolet Caprice patrol vehicle, including the "detective" package.
We were curious about this details of this version (9C3) of the car, and how it differs from the patrol model (9C1). Since GM isn't making a retail version of the vehicle, departments will be hard-pressed to use them as surveillance vehicles, since they will be recognized as police cars.
"They will most likely be used for the senior level officers and detectives who are not on patrol," GM spokeswoman Ashleigh Rainko tells POLICE Magazine.
Performance of the vehicles will be identical; a few features will differentiate the two models.
Perhaps most notably, the detective model includes a traditional center console and floor shifter, whereas the patrol vehicle has an open center console with a shift lever strategically placed on the floor to provide space for police equipment.
The patrol version will include bolt-on wheel center caps, and the detective model includes full wheel covers.
As for exterior colors, both vehicles will be available in Heron (white), Red Hot (medium red), Karma (jade green), Phantom (black), Mirage Gold (light gold), Switchblade Silver (silver pearl) and Alto Gray (medium gray).
