SHOT Show 2014

We sent Police Magazine contributing editor Mark W. Clark to the SHOT Show in January and he came back with these shots of guns and gear from Media Day at the Range and from the show floor.

Beretta says its new Pico is the thinnest .380 auto made. The snag-free Pico's slide and frame are a true 18 millimeters at their widest point. The grip frame, sights, and caliber (go from a .380 to a .32ACP by changing the barrel) are all simple to modify. The chassis can accommodate a Lasermax Laser frame and be customized with a selection of colored frames.

Firearms 2014

Each year the latest firearms, law enforcement gear, and shooting sports products make their debut at the Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show. This year's show is scheduled for the middle of this month at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas. And from what the POLICE editorial staff is hearing from some of the top law enforcement product manufacturers, the guns making their debut (or U.S. debut) at SHOT 2014 will continue some of the trends that we have seen in the last five or so years. Since the expansion of concealed carry laws nationwide, some of the biggest sellers in the firearms market have been compact or even pocket-sized pistols. The word from major pistol makers is that this trend will continue and probably gain steam. The other major trend in the firearms market is the AR-variant rifle. These semi-automatic versions of military-style rifles called "modern sporting rifles" in the industry continue to be extremely popular as target and hunting rifles with gun enthusiasts and as patrol rifles for law enforcement. Both new and improved versions of ARs will be on display at this year's SHOT.

The Night Vision Depot Binocular Night Vision Device with Single Gain Control (BNVD-SG) has been redesigned to be lighter while increasing performance. This dual tube night vision goggle now operates with a single gain control knob, which the user can use to adjust the tube brightness (gain) lower to compensate for overly bright conditions or to increase the gain under extreme dark conditions. 2014 Police Vehicle Testing

Starting with the 2015 model year, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors will offer at least one police vehicle in an all-wheel or four-wheel-drive configuration. In early November, GM introduced a pursuit-rated version of its four-wheel-drive Chevy Tahoe to go with the pursuit-rated RWD Tahoe. In June, Chrysler announced it would produce an AWD Charger Pursuit.

The new Collision Reporting tool from Appriss was developed to help law enforcement agencies determine traffic trouble spots so they can be eliminated or their toll can be mitigated. User Col. Steve Wagner, chief deputy of the Hendricks County (Ind.) Sheriff’s Office, says the software has “vastly improved” the agency’s ability to collect, submit, and analyze crash data.

LASD 2014 Model Year Vehicle Testing

Ohio Agency's Ford Police Wagon
